I am recovering from a sinus infection and this morning, I woke up really hoarse. I feel good but my voice is hoarse. And yet, I still laugh and make the patients laugh, too! My laugh kind of sounds like a group of rats fighting for one tiny piece of Kraft cheese! Laughter is a great ability that God has given each us. It helps us to manage life and all that it brings. I have felt down a many of times, but someone came along and made me laugh. Then, sometimes I make my own self laugh! It makes my heart feel so much better. It’s good to laugh and have a cheerful heart. God’s Word reminds us that there is a time to laugh and there’s a time not to (Ecclesiastes 3:4). For example, if someone is being ridiculed or dealing with pain of some sort – laughter should have no place. So we must stay mindful of that. I am no Bible Scholar (yet) but there are many examples in the Bible that lets us know that having a cheerful heart is good. One example is the story of Sarah and the birth of Isaac in Genesis 21. Take time to read or re-read it. “Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me” (Genesis 21:6).
