Handling Disappointments

Disappointments in this life will come. If you haven’t encountered any yet, keep living. I was so terrible at handling disappointments. I would cry, whine, complain and shut out the entire world other than my children. I would write long soliloquies about how disappointed I was and would let the pain linger for, not days, but months and years. I did this because I had not only shut out the world, I had shut out the Lord. I went to church and went through the motions but as soon as I would get home, I would shut out the Lord. Today, I want to testify that I handle the disappointments in this life very well! Why? Because I let the Lord in. As a matter of fact, I let Him take control. How you handle disappointments in this life is determined by who or what you are handling it with. If you are attempting to go at it alone, you may get lost, it will get very dark, you won’t be able to see or think clearly, doubt will whisper to you and fear will consume you. Oh, but if you allow the Lord to come in and talk to you, walk with you, comfort you and guide you! He gave us life so He is the one who can help us with the disappointments of life. Somebody may be disappointed on today. Somebody may be trying to process pain on their own today. I encourage you to read John 11 on today. Take heed to Verse 22 that says “But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Invite God to your disappointment on today. He is an EVER PRESENT HELP in the times of trouble.

Write It Down

I heard a lady say that sometimes at night, she makes a list of all the things she is thankful for. When she looks back over that list, it outweighs any anxiety, fear and worry she has. And she goes to sleep with the things she is thankful for on her mind. What a great way to tell anxiety, fear and worry to get back! I bring forth a challenge for you tonight to get out a journal or any kind of piece of paper and write down the things you are thankful for. If you can grab your phone or grab your remote, surely you can grab a pencil or pen and write down this list. Sometimes, you have to remind yourself that you have so much to be thankful for. Write it down. Look at it over and over again. Embed it into your memory and let it ooze into your heart and pour out into your actions.
